The Toronto Blue Jays added yet another pitcher to their active roster on Thursday, signing Michael Lorenzen on a one-year contract.
In corresponding moves, right-handed pitcher Chad Dallas was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo while outfielder Jonatan Clase (foot) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Lorenzen, a 34-year-old righty, was released by the Colorado Rockies on Aug. 17 after being designated for assignment.
The veteran struggled during his time with the Rockies this season, posting a 3-11 record and a 7.08 ERA with 82 strikeouts over 26 games, including 25 starts.
A native of Anaheim, Lorenzen made his MLB debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2015, spending seven seasons with the franchise.
Over 458 career games, including 144 starts, with the Reds, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals and Rockies, Lorenzen has a career 4.40 ERA.
The Blue Jays are in need of healthy pitching with Trey Yesavage (knee), Shane Bieber (right teres major inflammation), Patrick Corbin (shoulder) and Jason Taillon (forearm) all currently on the Injured List.
Toronto lost starting pitchers Cody Ponce and Jose Berrios to season-ending injuries earlier this season.
Entering Thursday’s series finale against the Royals, the Blue Jays (65-69) sit three games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final Wild Card playoff spot in the American League.
