Toronto Blue Jays starter Jameson Taillon left Friday’s start against the Kansas City Royals after 29 pitches with right elbow discomfort.
Taillon completed two innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one before exiting.
Joe Mantiply came out to start the third inning with the Jays leading 5-1. They would go on to win 9-2 to move back to .500 at 71-71.
The 34-year-old was activated from the injured list earlier on Friday after spending nearly a month out of action due to right forearm tendinitis.
After the game, manager John Schneider told reporters via The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon that Taillon felt a “nervy feeling” in his right elbow during the game.
He will go for an MRI, and Bannon notes he will likely return to the injured list.
“I feel for him right now after kind of battling his way back,” Schneider said Friday night.
Taillon’s earned run average stands at 3.60 in three starts with the Jays. He is carrying a 5.92 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP, collecting 72 strikeouts to 28 walks across 80 innings in 17 starts between the Chicago Cubs and Blue Jays this season.
Toronto will continue its series with the Royals in Kansas City Saturday evening.
