Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Louis Varland has been named MLB’s American League Reliever of the Month for March and April, it was announced Monday morning.
Varland turned in a 0.56 ERA with four saves and 16 strikeouts in 26 innings. He took over as the team’s closer last month in place of a struggling Jeff Hoffman.

Varland, 28, is in his first full season for the Blue Jays after coming over in a trade last summer with the Minnesota Twins. He had a 2.97 ERA combined between the two teams during the regular season and made an additional 15 appearances for the Jays in the postseason during their run to the World Series.
Mason Miller of the San Diego Padres took home the award in the National League. He has 10 saves and a 1.17 ERA with a whopping 29 strikeouts in 15.1 innings pitched.
The Blue Jays (16-18) will begin a series in Tampa against the Rays on Monday evening.
