Torey Lovullo will remain in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ dugout.
The team has retained their manager on a two-year deal, The Arizona Republic’s Nick Piecoro reports.
Lovullo, 61, has spent the past decade with the team. His existing contract was to expire at the end of the 2026 season. He was widely expected to be a favourite for the Seattle Mariners vacancy if he became available.
Piecoro notes that the new deal lines Lovullo up with the current pact of team general manager Mike Hazen.
The Diamondbacks finished their season at 86-76, missing the playoffs by two games.
A native of Santa Monica, CA, Lovullo began his big league coaching career with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011. After two seasons as the team’s first base coach, Lovullo departed with manager John Farrell to join the Boston Red Sox as bench coach. The Red Sox won the World Series in 2013.
Joining the Diamondbacks as a first-time manager in 2017, Lovullo led the team to the playoffs in his debut campaign. In 2023, Lovullo’s won the National League pennant, reaching the World Series for the first time since 2001. The team ultimately fell in five games to the Texas Rangers.
Across 10 seasons, Lovullo has a 750-768 (.494) record.
Prior to his coaching career, Lovullo appeared in 303 games across eight MLB seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland, Oakland Athletics, Mariners, California Angels, New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers from 1988 to 1999.
