Steven Kwan’s time as a member of the Cleveland Guardians could be coming to an end.
FanSided’s Robert Murray reports rivals believe the team will entertain moving the two-time All-Star outfielder this off-season as he enters his final year of arbitration with free agency on the horizon next winter.
Kwan, 29, just completed his fifth big league season. The Los Gatos, Calif., native appeared in 151 games in 2026, batting .282 in 539 at-bats with 152 hits, three home runs, 32 runs batted in and a .731 OPS. A slick fielder, the four-time Gold Glover is once again a finalist for the award alongside Ceddanne Rafaela of the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers’ Evan Carter at centre field.
The Oregon State product played in all 11 of the Guardians’ postseason games this fall, batting .244 with 11 hits and an RBI. Kwan has appeared in 31 career playoff games. The Guardians were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday in six games in the American League Championship Series.
Murray suggests the San Diego Padres, longtime admirers of the player, and the Chicago Cubs, who could lose both Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ in free agency and have former Cleveland executive Carter Hawkins at general manager, as potential fits for Kwan.
