Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is one of the bigger bats available in free agency this winter and the Toronto Blue Jays could be among his suitors, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Feinsand noted in a story posted over the weekend that the Jays could decide to move Ernie Clement off second base full-time and into a super utility role, which would open a spot for Chisholm.
The Blue Jays struggled at the plate in 2026, finishing last in the Majors with 648 runs scored. The 28-year-old Chisholm was streaky at the plate this past season but hit 31 homers with 80 RBI and a .813 OPS en route to winning the Silver Slugger award for second base in 2025.
Clement was an All-Star for the first time in his career this year but scuffled at the plate in the second half of the season, posting a .488 OPS in August and a .386 mark in September. He also had just one home run and a combined 13 RBI over the final two months of the season.
According to FanGraphs, Clement’s WAR dropped from 3.2 in 2025 to 0.6 this year.
Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins told reporters after the season that Clement is a “very good regular” but stopped short of saying he would be the everyday second baseman in 2027.
Clement is arbitration eligible this off-season and projects to earn about $7.6 million in 2027 according to MLB Trade Rumours.
Chisholm told reporters after the New York Yankees were eliminated in the American League Division Series last week that he hoped to be back with the Yankees next season.
