The Triple-A Buffalo Bisons released infielder Lenyn Sosa on Friday, marking an official end to his time with the Toronto Blue Jays, per The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon.
Sosa, 26, cleared outright assignment waivers on Aug. 18, sending the fifth-year player down to the minors after 28 games with the Blue Jays this season.
He had been out of the lineup since May 26 due to a right-wrist contusion, and was transferred to the 60-day IL earlier in August.
Sosa was acquired by the Jays on April 13 from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder Jordan Rich and future considerations. He slashed .195/.207/.283 with one home run and nine RBI in 40 combined games this season split between Toronto and Chicago. He had 22 homers and 75 RBI in 140 games with Chicago last season.
The Blue Jays enter play Friday two games back of the final American League wild-card spot at 76-77.
