NEW YORK -- The Yankees placed left-hander Carlos Rodón on the injured list Friday because of elbow inflammation, putting another dent in their starting rotation depth amid a seven-game losing streak.
Rodón went for an MRI after feeling pain while playing catch Wednesday. He will have a platelet-rich plasma injection, and will not throw for at least a few days, possibly as long as a week.
"It's kind of like off and on the last couple of weeks," Rodón said. "Just trying to come back throughout the week, it hasn't been agreeing with me. So, the recovery's been not so great over the last few weeks, but still out there, got to pitch, which was great, but this week, it caught up."
Rodón joins fellow left-hander Max Fried on the injured list. Fried has been out because of a bone bruise in his left elbow since mid-May. He threw live batting practice Tuesday and is scheduled to do so again Sunday before perhaps going on a rehab assignment.
Rodón, 33, underwent surgery on his left elbow in October to remove loose bodies and shave down a bone spur. The procedure delayed his readiness for the season, and that was further delayed in late March when he injured his right hamstring going through his throwing program.
He made his season debut May 10 and is 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA in nine starts this season. He was scheduled to start Saturday against Minnesota.
The Yankees have yet to name Rodón's replacement for Saturday's matinee against the Twins. One option is Brendan Beck. Manager Aaron Boone said the Yankees will call up Beck on Saturday, but they haven't decided if Beck will start the game.
New York could opt for a bullpen game and lean on Beck for bulk innings after an opener with long relievers Ryan Yarbrough and Paul Blackburn in reserve. Beck made his major league debut with three innings out of the bullpen May 7. The 2021 second-round pick has a 3.07 ERA in 88 innings across 16 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barres this season.
The Yankees also activated center fielder Trent Grisham and third baseman Ryan McMahon from the injured list Friday.
Grisham returns after missing 18 games because of a strained right hamstring sustained while running to second in Toronto on June 12. He is hitting .232 with eight homers and 35 RBIs in 66 games. He hit safely in 10 straight games before getting hurt.
McMahon missed the past 11 games because of a throat infection. In his first full season with the Yankees after being acquired from Colorado in July, McMahon is hitting .210 with eight homers and 23 RBIs.
To make room on the roster, the Yankees optioned infielder Oswaldo Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Cabrera went hitless in nine at-bats in his return to the Yankees after fracturing his left ankle on a slide at home in Seattle in May 2025.
