The race for the final AL Wild Card spot was in full swing on Saturday as the Tigers lost a critical series to to the AL Central-leading White Sox, the Orioles edged the Rays for the second straight game, the Twins lost to the Phillies and the Rangers beat the Athletics to move ahead of the Blue Jays for the final Wild Card spot.
Sonny Gray worked seven innings for his career-best 15th win of the season, Wilyer Abreu hit a home run, and the Red Sox blanked the Pirates on Saturday night. Gray struck out seven and allowed six hits while walking one.
