Marte doesn’t show up for game, placed on restricted list by Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte on the restricted list after he went AWOL for the second straight season. Marte failed to show up for Arizona's game at Boston Monday night and manager Torey Lovullo was still searching for answers after it was over.

Elly De La Cruz delivered his first career walk-off hit in the 10th inning after Dane Myers hit a tying pinch-hit homer in the ninth, and the Cincinnati Reds rallied past the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 on Monday night to split a doubleheader.

Kevin McGonigle hit a two-run homer, and the Detroit Tigers held off the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 on Monday night and moved into a three-way tie for the final AL wild-card spot.


MLB: Diamondbacks 1, Red Sox 11

Mickey Gasper and Willson Contreras each hit a solo home run as part of a 16-hit attack that propelled the Boston Red Sox to an 11-1 ​victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday in the opener ‌of a three-game series.


MLB: Orioles 6, Rays 7

Pinch-hitter Jonny DeLuca put the Rays in front with a two-run single in the seventh inning, and AL-best Tampa Bay rallied for a 7-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night to avoid a four-game sweep.


MLB: Cardinals 2, Reds 1 (GM 1)

Alec Burleson delivered a two-run double early and four St. Louis relievers turned in perfect innings late to guide the Cardinals past the Reds in the first game of a doubleheader Monday. Left-hander Quinn Mathews, making his second career start, allowed one run in four innings to help the Cardinals win for the 10th time in 14 games.

Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning, Casey Mize allowed three hits in six innings to pick up his first win in a San Diego uniform, and the Padres defeated the Guardians on Sunday.


MLB: Mariners 3, Astros 2

Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena homered to lead the Mariners to a victory over the Astros on Sunday night. Arozarena went deep in the first inning and Raleigh connected in the sixth to help guide Seattle to victory, giving them a 9-2 advantage in the season series against Houston.


MLB: Red Sox 3, Pirates 8

Bryan Reynolds, Brandon Lowe, and Nick Yorke each had two RBI to lift the Pirates over the Red Sox after a 2 1/2-hour rain delay on Sunday. Pittsburgh won a franchise-best eighth consecutive home series against an AL opponent, a streak extending back to a three-game sweep of Detroit from July 21-23, 2025.


MLB: Phillies 7, Twins 5

Bryan De La Cruz hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and the Phillies overcame a five-run deficit to beat the Twins on Sunday and sweep the three-game series. Alec Bohm hit a three-run home run as Philadelphia won for the fifth time in seven games.
