Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard has agreed to a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension, plus a mutual option in the 2029-30 season, CAA co-head of basketball Austin Brown and agent Max Saidman told ESPN on Tuesday.
Pritchard -- the 2024 NBA champion and 2025 Sixth Man of the Year -- cashes in on a fully guaranteed two-year max extension to keep him a key long-term member of the retooled Celtics after the 6-foot-1 guard averaged career highs in points (17), assists (5.2) and rebounds (3.9) last season.
The deal keeps Pritchard for an additional season after his current deal ends in 2028. Pritchard will be set to make over $21 million for the 2028-29 season before a mutual option in 2029-30 worth nearly $23 million. That mutual option allows either side to opt in for the final season of Pritchard's contract in 2029-30, which also opens the window for extension conversations that summer.
Pritchard is currently playing on a deal that pays him $7.8 million this season and $8.3 million next year.
Pritchard blossomed last season while starting 50 games, helping to ease the loss of Jayson Tatum for most of last season by taking an increased role in the offense. His touches per game went from 51.8 in 2024-25 to nearly 70 last season, the second-largest increase among the 33 players to record at least 4,000 touches in each season.
Pritchard, 28, is one of four players to make at least 200 3-pointers in multiple seasons in Celtics history, along with Tatum, Derrick White and Antoine Walker. He has also been incredibly durable in his six NBA seasons; his 241 games played over the last three years is tied for the third-most in the league during that span.
The deal takes Pritchard, the No. 26 pick for the Celtics in the 2020 NBA draft, through at least his ninth season in Boston, and potentially Year 10 if the option is picked up.
