LA Clippers wing Max Strus suffered a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot during Sunday’s preseason opener in Hawaii and will be reevaluated in four weeks, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday.
The noncontact injury occurred five minutes into the game. Strus cut across the lane to receive a pass and, as he caught it, pulled up lame and struggled to put weight on his right foot.
Clippers coach Ty Lue called timeout immediately, and Strus limped slowly to the locker room. Tests in Los Angeles after the flight back from Honolulu confirmed the partial plantar fascia tear.
This is the latest injury blow for an already short-handed Clippers team. Brandon Ingram, acquired from the Toronto Raptors in the Kawhi Leonard trade and expected to be one of the Clippers’ leading scorers, is still recovering from heel surgery and a partially torn Achilles that was repaired in May.
Ingram has only recently advanced to light court work and will miss the start of the season. Veteran guard Bradley Beal (right knee inflammation) and second-year center Yanic Konan Niederhauser (foot) are also currently out.
The Clippers open the regular season Oct. 21 against the Sacramento Kings.
