Michael Lombardi’s time with North Carolina is over.
The school confirmed the resignation of the football program’s general manager on Thursday.
Lombardi, 67, had been placed on administrative leave at the end of July as the school conducts an investigation into an HR complaint against him.
“As is standard procedure with personnel matters, leadership, staff, and student-athletes are prohibited from addressing this topic further, and has no reflection on the merits,” the school said in a statement at the time.
Lombardi joined the Tar Heels in the winter of 2024, reuniting with friend and former colleague Bill Belichick, with whom he worked at both the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots. A native of Ocean City, NJ, Lombardi also spent time in the scouting departments and front offices of the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos. He also had an extensive career in NFL media with stints at ESPN, CBS Sports and Fox Sports among others.
After a 4-8 season in 2025, the Tar Heels opened their new season last Saturday with a 15-10 victory over TCU in Dublin.
In its release, UNC notes that the investigation into Lombardi’s conduct will continue.
