Josh Simmons is headed to injured reserve.

Kansas City Chiefs head trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters on Thursday that rehab on his injured back has not gotten to the point where he’s ready to return.

“Josh worked his tail off and is diligent every day,” Burkholder said (via ESPN’s Nate Taylor). “However, we feel he’s plateaued in the rehab process. He’s just not there yet.”

Simmons, 23, has yet to play this season. Taken with the 32nd overall selection of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, the San Diego native was limited to only eight games in his rookie season. Simmons missed time with both a personal matter and a wrist injury.

The Chiefs (6-0) take on the Seattle Seahawks (3-3) on Sunday Night Football.
