Colts to stick with Jones at quarterback vs. Vikings

Published:

INDIANAPOLIS -- Daniel Jones will remain the Indianapolis Colts' starting quarterback when they travel to play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, coach Shane Steichen said.

Jones' status has been a question amid his continued struggles, the Colts' stunning loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday and Monday's firing of general manager Chris Ballard.

Jones has committed nine turnovers this season, second only to Los Angeles Chargers' quarterback Justin Herbert. He also ranks near the bottom of the league's starting quarterbacks in many of the major passing categories, including QBR (30th), completion rate (29th) and yards per attempt (29th).

But Steichen, who has consistently defended his quarterback, said no change at the position was planned.

"He's aware that he has to produce and play better," Steichen said Monday. "And I think the biggest thing is the takeaways, the turnovers. We've got to do a great job of taking care of the football, especially in the red zone, when you've already got three points. You've got to be smart down there. Don't force anything. And I believe he'll do a great job of that moving forward."

Jones threw two interceptions in the red zone against Tennessee, helping the Titans erase a 13-0 deficit to record their first win after an 0-5 start. He has dealt with myriad issues this season, from his continued recovery from a torn Achilles last December to his underwhelming receiving corps and inconsistent offensive-line play.

But Jones' drop-off from 2025, his best season, has been alarming. His completion percentage last season was a career-high 68%. This season, Jones is completing a career-low 59.6% of his attempts.
