TOTTENHAM, England -- Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin will not play in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts because of a hamstring injury suffered in practice Friday.
McLaurin was declared inactive after being listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. There was optimism Friday that he would be able to play, according to a team source, but by Saturday afternoon that optimism had dissipated.
He was one of seven inactives, including quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was ruled out Friday because of his dislocated left elbow. There is optimism about Daniels’ return for the Week 6 matchup against the New York Giants.
McLaurin caught just four passes in the first two games but finished with six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown in last week’s 33-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks. He has developed a strong rapport with backup quarterback Marcus Mariota. In their nine games together, they have connected for 38 passes, 601 yards and five touchdowns.
McLaurin missed seven games last season with a quad injury.
Without McLaurin, it could mean a more active day for rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams. Dyami Brown and Trey Burks can fill McLaurin’s X receiver role -- as can Stefon Diggs, who has started at the flanker position opposite McLaurin. Diggs leads Washington with 13 receptions and three touchdown catches, while McLaurin has a team-best 141 receiving yards.
Washington does return tight end Chig Okonkwo, who missed the past two games with a hamstring injury.
