Report: Chargers OT Slater has high ankle sprain

Published:

LOS ANGELES -- Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks in Seattle, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Follow-up testing Monday confirmed the injury.

The two-time Pro Bowler was hurt in the fourth quarter of the 30-23 loss. After the game, he had a walking boot on his right foot and was using crutches.

Slater missed all of last season after rupturing the patellar tendon in his left knee in training camp.

Slater was among a lengthy list of Chargers players who were hurt Sunday as the team dropped to 0-4. Left guard Trevor Penning exited with a head injury, right tackle Joe Alt with a neck injury and wide receiver Ladd McConkey with a foot injury.

For the final two drives, the Chargers trotted out an offensive line with four rookies -- Travis Burke, Jacob Spomer, Jake Slaughter, Logan Taylor -- to go with veteran Cole Strange. By that point, the Chargers didn’t have any other linemen in uniform.

Slater is in the first year of a four-year $114 million contract extension he signed in July 2025 that included $92 million guaranteed.
