Chicago Blackhawks forward Frank Nazar has been given a two-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat, it was announced by the Department of Player Safety on Friday night.
The incident occurred late in the third period of the Islanders’ 4-1 win over the Blackhawks on Thursday. As Horvat shot the puck from his own end for an empty-net goal, Nazar delivered a high hit on the Islanders captain.
A scrum broke out between the two teams and Nazar was given a match penalty after review.
Horvat appeared to be alright after the hit, though he did not a take another shift with just 93 seconds left after his empty-netter.
The 22-year-old Nazar leads Chicago with two goals through five games while adding an assist thus far.
In 127 career games with the Blackhawks, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound centre has recorded 30 goals and 41 assists for 71 points.
