Canadiens F Evans to miss four-to-six weeks with lower-body injury

Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after suffering a lower-body injury, the team announced on Saturday.

Evans suffered the injury in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 20, when he was part of a knee-on-knee collision with Penguins forward Justin Brazeau in the first period.

After the game, Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis indicated that Evans would not travel with the team as he sought additional treatment.

The 29-year-old centre has five goals and 10 points in 34 games this season, his seventh in Montreal. He was originally selected by the Canadiens in the seventh round (207th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, but did not make his debut with the team until the 2019-20 campaign.

The Toronto native has 45 goals and 138 points in 383 games across his NHL career.

The Canadiens added to their centre depth earlier in the month when they acquired veteran forward Phillip Danault from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick on Dec. 19.
