The NHL Players’ Association announced on Friday that defenceman Matt Dumba is retiring after 748 career NHL games.

Dumba, 31, appeared in 11 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, where he scored one goal and recorded three points.

The 13-year NHL veteran was selected with the seventh-overall pick of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Minnesota Wild.

A King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner in 2020, Dumba has played in 748 career NHL games with the Wild, Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars and Penguins.

Dumba has 85 goals and 261 points over his 13-year career.

Dumba has also been committed to social justice and the Hockey is for Everyone initiative. He also helped form the Hockey Diversity Alliance with current and former Black NHL players. The HDA’s mission is to “eradicate racism and intolerance in hockey.”
