Devils sign captain Hischier to five-year, $58.5 million extension

The New Jersey Devils are expected to sign captain Nico Hischier to a five-year, $58.5 million extension that carries an annual cap hit of $11.7 million.

Hischier, 27, registered 28 goals and 66 points in 82 games with the Devils last season.

The 6-foot-1 centre is entering the final season of a seven-year, $50.75 million contract that carries a cap hit of $7.25 million.

Drafted first overall in 2017, Hischier has 199 goals and 488 points in 609 career games.

Hischier is considered as one of the top defensive forwards in the game and finished second in Selke Trophy voting in 2023.

The Brig, Switzerland, native represented his country at Milano Cortina 2026 in a fifth-place finish. He also represented Switzerland seven times at the World Hockey Championship, winning silver three straight years in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
