With William Nylander already ruled out due to illness, the Toronto Maple Leafs will also not have Max Domi in the lineup on Friday against the Washington Capitals.

TSN’s Mark Masters reports that Mattias Maccelli skated in Domi’s spot in pre-game warm-ups.

Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube spoke to reporters on Thursday about Domi’s performance through the first quarter of the season. “When he’s skating and moving, he’s an effective player,” Berube said. “But it’s too inconsistent.”

In his third season with the Maple Leafs, the 30-year-old Domi has just three goals and six points in 23 games.

Maccelli has appeared in 21 games this season - his first in Toronto - and has four goals and nine points.

The Maple Leafs enter Friday’s game against Washington at 10-10-3, sitting ahead of only the Buffalo Sabres in the Eastern Conference standings approaching December.
