Brendan Gallagher wasted no time getting involved as he scored to give the Montreal Canadiens a 1-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning after the first period of Game 5 on Wednesday night.
The first-round series is currently tied 2-2.
Gallagher, who was inserted into the Canadiens lineup for the first time in the series, crashed the net and fired a rebound home to open the scoring at the 3:00 minute mark of the period.
Alex Newhook picked up an assist as he created the chance by picking up the puck at the blueline and driving to the net.
His initial shot missed the mark, but bounced off the boards right back to him for a second attempt.
Lightning defenceman Ryan McDonagh took the first penalty of the game, four minutes for high sticking Nick Suzuki at 7:30.
Tampa was able to successfully kill off the penalty.
Canadiens forward Jake Evans went to the box for delay of game after he shot the puck over the glass from the defensive zone at 13:06.
The Canadiens were able to keep the Lightning off the board while down a man.
Lightning forward Yanni Gourde and Canadiens defenceman Kaiden Guhle went to the box with coincidental minors at 17:52.
The teams played 4-on-4 in the late stage of the period, which will carry over to the opening eight seconds of the second period.
Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped five of six shots for the Lightning.
Jakub Dobes turned away all seven shots he faced for the Canadiens.
