The Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets will take to the ice with familiar, but unique jerseys for this month’s Heritage Classic.
The two teams will play at Princess Auto Stadium, the home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, on Sun. Oct. 25.
The theme of the Jets’ jerseys is honouring the look of the ‘80s and ‘90s teams. The jersey features the team’s throwback logo and a special felt crest with chain stitching. The “Heritage Classic” name appears on the hem with a streaking jet graphic.
Instead of the traditional white of the “Bleu, Blanc et Rouge,” the Habs’ jersey features an off-white hue. The classic “CH” logo is slightly redesigned to mimic crests of the past. On the inside of the jersey, “Les Habitants” appears on the collar.
The Heritage Classic will be the 46th regular-season game played outdoors since the original Heritage Classic played Commonwealth Stadium in 2003 with the Edmonton Oilers hosting the Canadiens. Beginning with the Winter Classic in 2008 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres, outdoor games have become a regular occurrence. Two more are scheduled for this season with the Utah Mammoth hosting the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 31 and the Vegas Golden Knights visiting the Dallas Stars on Feb. 20, 2027.
The Heritage Classic will be the Jets’ third outdoor contest and first since 2019. The team is 1-1-0 in its previous two games. The Habs will be skating in their first outdoor game since 2017. Montreal has a 2-2-0 mark in previous games.
