The Carolina Hurricanes announced that defenceman Charles Alexis Legault had surgery to repair multiple torn extensor tendons in his right hand on Monday.
He is expected to miss three to four months recovering.

Legault got into a fight on Sunday in front of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ bench after hitting Leafs forward Nick Robertson. He then dropped the gloves with Bobby McMann and Legault appeared to cut his hand on Robertson’s skate as he was laying on the ice after the hit.
The 22-year-old defenceman is in his first NHL season and has one goal and one assist in eight games with the Hurricanes.
A fifth-round pick (139th overall) by Carolina in 2023, Legault turned pro in 2024 with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, where he had three goals and 14 points in 63 games.
