“Joel stepped into our lineup early in the season and has proven that he belongs in the NHL,” said Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky. “He fits our style of play well and we are excited to watch his continued development in Carolina.”
Nystrom, 23, has four assists in 23 games with Carolina this season, his first in the NHL.
A seventh-round pick (219th overall) by the Hurricanes in 2021, Nystrom signed a two-year, entry-level contract in May of 2024 but played in Sweden with Farjestad BK in 2024-25.
