Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers have placed forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the injured reserve Thursday while forward Matt Savoie and defenceman Alec Regula have been put on long-term injured reserve.

Forward Josh Samanski has been recalled under emergency conditions.

Nugent-Hopkins missed the season opener on Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks with a lower-body injury.

The 33-year-old scored 20 goals with 56 points in 72 games last season.

Savoie has been sidelined all through training camp with a lower-body injury and is expected to miss another eight weeks.

The 22-year-old had 18 goals with 37 points in 82 games last season as a rookie with the Oilers.

Samanski split the 2025-26 season between Edmonton and the AHL's Bakersfield Condors.

With the Oilers, he scored two goals with two assists in 24 games. In the AHL, he recorded eight goals with 31 points in 45 games.

Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres have recalled defenceman Dennis Gilbert from the AHL's Rochester Americans ahead of tonight's season opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Depending if Mattias Samuelsson (lower-body) plays, Gilbert will slot in as the sixth defenceman or sit as a healthy scratch.

Gilbert's recall comes as Olen Zellweger (concussion protocol) is placed on injured reserve. Zellweger has not been ruled out for Saturday's home opener against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Zellweger suffered the injury after taking a hit from Blue Jackets defenceman Carson Soucy on Sept. 22 in their preseason contest.

“He just didn’t get through his tests, so he’s going to continue to skate for a couple days, and he’ll be retested,” head coach Lindy Ruff said of Zellweger.

Goalie Alex Lyon remains absent with an upper-body injury he suffered on Sept. 24 in preseason action while forward Jason Zucker is on the IR to start the season after off-season sports hernia surgery.
