Ottawa Senators

The Senators assigned defencemen Jorian Donovan and Hoyt Stanley to the AHL's Belleville Senators, paving the way for Artem Zub's season debut, according to Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch.

Zub, 31, has yet to play this season as he continued to recover from a knee injury he sustained during the first round of the playoffs last season.

The 6-foot-3, right-shot blueliner registered five goals and 30 points with a plus-22 rating last season while averaging 20:48 of ice time.

Stanley appeared in four games during his stay with the NHL team while Donovan appeared in three games.

The Senators are also awaiting the return of Jake Sanderson, who has been out with a lower-body injury since the team's opener on Oct. 3.

Sanderson, 24, had 14 goals and 54 points with a plus-16 rating last season while averaging 24:50 of ice time.

Garrioch adds that Sanderson did not take part in power-play drills and is unlikely to play on Thursday.

Forward William Eklund is set to miss 10-to-12 weeks after undergoing surgery on his torn ankle tendon.

Eklund was injured in the first period of the Senators’ 2-1 victory over the Flyers last week after taking a hit from defenceman Simon Benoit while chasing the puck into the corner in the offensive zone.

The 5-foot-10 winger has a goal and an assist in four regular season games for the Senators this season, his first with the team. He had 15 goals and 53 points in 78 games with the Sharks last season.

The Senators used these lines during Thursday's skate as they prepare to take on the New York Islanders:

Halliday - Stutzle - Batherson
Burakovsky - Cozens - Giroux
Cousins - Pinto - Amadio
Foegele - Greig - Zetterlund

Chabot - Zub
Kleven - Yakemchuk
Crotty - Spence
