Ice Chips: Guhle to make season debut for Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens will be getting some reinforcements on the back end as defenceman Kaiden Guhle will be making his season debut against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, the team announced.

Guhle had been sidelined after undergoing surgery on his adductor muscle over the summer.

The 24-year-old also missed 39 games due to a partially torn adductor muscle last season. The 6-foot-3, 202-pound Canadian scored two goals and added nine assists for 11 points across 39 games for Montreal in 2025-26.

In 208 career games all with the Canadiens, Guhle has recorded 18 goals and 51 points.

Goalie Colten Ellis appears to be getting the start for the Sabres against the Utah Mammoth on Saturday, according to The Athletic's Matthew Fairburn.

The 26-year-old has played in one game this season, making 18 of 20 saves in an overtime win over the Minnesota Wild.

Forward Pierre-Luc Dubois is ill and will not be skating with the Capitals today per the team, according to the Capitals' Sammi Silber.

Across four games this season, the 28-year-old has recorded one goal and three assists for four points.

Jacob Markstrom will start in net for the Florida Panthers when they take on the Minnesota Wild on Saturday per coach Paul Maurice, according to the Panthers' Jameson Olive.

In his previous three starts this season, Markstrom has allowed only four goals on 55 shots and has posted a 2-0-1 record.

Chicago Blackhawks

Captain Connor bedard is one step closer to returning as the forward has been cleared to take faceoffs, according to the Blackhawks' Charlie Roumeliotis.

There is no firm timeline for Bedard's return from shoulder surgery that he underwent in July, but the 21-year-old is expected to be out until at least November, based on the initial four-month estimate.

Forward Teuvo Teravainen was skating with the Blackhawks on Saturday, according to the Chicago Sun's Ben Pope.

Teravainen missed one-game with an undisclosed injury. The 32-year-old has two assists and two shots on goal in three appearances this season.

Dan Vladar will start in net for the Flyers when they take on the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

Vladar is still looking for his first win of the season, sitting 0-2-0 with a 5.12 goals-against average with an .863 save percentage.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are getting some reinforcements as defenceman Artem Zub and forward Andre Burakovsky have returned to the ice, according to TSN's Bruce Garrioch.

Zub (knee) and Burakovsky (upper-body) have been sidelined to start the season but both were practicing with the Senators on Saturday. 

Zub is yet to make his season debut while dealing with a knee injury suffered in last season's first round playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 31-year-old played in 81 games in 2025-26 recording five goals and 25 assists. He skated as an extra on Saturday.

Burakovsky is also yet to make his debut in a Sens uniform after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks over the summer. The forward has been sidelined by an upper-body injury since training camp after recording 33 points in 75 games with Chicago last season. He skated on the top line next to Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson on Saturday according to Garrioch.

As Burakovsky is activated, forward William Eklund will be heading to injured reserve, according to TSN's Claire Hanna. 

The 23-year-old will miss an extended period of time after sustaining an ankle injury during Thursday’s game vs. the Philadelphia Flyers.
