A frustrating period for Alexander Romanov continues.

The New York Islanders announced on Wednesday the defenceman tore his ACL and will miss the next six to eight months.

Romanov, 26, was injured in the team’s 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night after a collision with Mika Zibanejad in the third period. He left the game and did not return.

A native of Moscow, Romanov only appeared in 15 games in 2025-2026 due a severe shoulder injury.

Originally taken with the 38th overall selection of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Romanov spent the first two seasons of his career with the Montreal Canadiens. He was traded to the Islanders in the summer of 2022.

In 372 career games over seven seasons, Romanov has 17 goals and 67 assists over 20:06 of ice time a night.
