Seattle Kraken defenceman Ville Ottavainen was fined $2,190.72 on Friday after “serving as the aggressor” during an altercation with Calgary Flames forward Brennan Othmann in a pre-season game on Thursday.
The incident happened in the second period when Ottavainen responded to a hit from Othmann by grabbing the Flames player by the face and throwing him down to the ice before throwing a handful of punches.
A fourth-round pick by the Kraken in 2021, Ottavainen scored three goals with 14 assists over 53 games with the American Hockey League’s Coachella Valley Firebirds last season.
The 24-year-old native of Finland has one game of NHL experience under his belt, which came during the 2024-25 season.
Othmann, 23, played two games with the Flames last season, netting one goal and one assist.
Selected by the New York Rangers 16th overall in 2021, Othmann has two goals and three assists over 44 NHL games with the Rangers and Flames.
