The Toronto Maple Leafs have ruled out defenceman Chris Tanev from their game against the Colorado Avalanche after the veteran suffered an upper-body injury.

Tanev skated in five shifts in the first period, registering a minus-1 rating in 3:29 of ice time.

He was not on the bench for the beginning of the second period, and was ruled out by the team shortly thereafter.

Tanev, 36, tallied his first assist of the young season in the Maple Leafs’ 4-3 shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday. He has one point in five games overall.

The 17-year veteran is in his third season with the Maple Leafs after previously spending time with the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars. He has three goals and 21 points in 98 games with the Maple Leafs.
