Edmonton Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl both exploded for five-point nights on Thursday in a 6-5 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Both players finished the game with two goals and three assists, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins providing the other goal for the Oilers.
With his outing, McDavid became the second player in NHL history to record three five-point outings in the first 10 games of a season, joining Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux who accomplished the feat in 1992-93 and 1988-89.
Draisaitl scored both of his markers on the power play and now has 10 goals on the season. The three helpers increased his points total to 21 on the campaign.
McDavid found the net twice in the third period, with his second marker tying the game at 5-5 with less than a minute and a half left in regulation, forcing the game into overtime.
The Oilers captain now has eight goals and 23 assists on the season, as he leads the early race for the Art Ross Trophy.
Earlier this week, McDavid became the fastest player in NHL history to reach 20 assists, when he hit that plateau in his ninth game of the season.
He surpassed the mark jointly held by Hall of Famers Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky and Pat LaFontaine who all collected 20 assists in 10 games.
