New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin exited Friday night’s contest against the Washington Capitals with a right leg injury and did not return.

Shesterkin was ruled out officially after the start of the third period by the team.

Shesterkin was caught out of his net in the second period and when racing back into the crease, his right leg went hard into the post and was in visible pain on the ice.

He departed slowly with the help of the team’s trainers and was unable to put weight on his leg.

Backup goaltender Dylan Garand replaced Shesterkin in net.

Coming into the game, Shesterkin was 3-1 to start the season with a .926 save percentage and 1.75 goals-against average.

He allowed one goal on 14 shots against Washington before the injury.

A two-time All-Star, the 30-year-old took home the Vezina Trophy in 2021-22 as the NHL’s top goaltender.

He is in the second season of an eight-year, $92.475 million contract that carries an AAV of $11.5 million.
