The Columbus Blue Jackets have not had calls on forward Kirill Marchenko since early in the summer, according to The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline.
He reports it’s all quiet on the Marchenko front after a report from Saturday indicated he could soon be traded. Portzline adds things could always change later this summer.
On Saturday, Daria Tuboltseva of rg.org reported that a source close to Marchenko said the Russian winger is on the verge of being dealt. The source described Marchenko as being “between two teams right now” as he trains in Russia for the 2026-27 season. Tuboltseva is based in Saint Petersburg, Russia and has experience covering Russian NHL players, according to her bio on the website.
Tuboltseva mentions the Montreal Canadiens as a team having previously checked in on Marchenko.
Marchenko’s agent, Dan Milstein of Gold Star Sports, said in a lighthearted post on X that he could not confirm or deny rumours involving Marchenko but pointed out there were steep tariffs on exports between Canada and the U.S.
The 24-year-old Marchenko is scheduled to become a restricted free agent next summer and is due $3.85 million this coming season. His 27 goals led the team last season and he finished second in points (67) to only Zach Werenski (81). He was drafted in the second round in 2018 and has played all four of his NHL seasons with the Jackets.
Werenski himself was heavily involved in trade rumours earlier this off-season but said he wanted to remain in Columbus after nixing a deal to the Dallas Stars.
The Blue Jackets went 40-30-12 in 2025-26 to miss the playoffs for the sixth straight season. They have not won a playoff series since advancing to the second round in 2019.
