Report: Blues’ Toropchenko (upper-body injury) will be re-evaluated in six weeks

St. Louis Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko suffered an upper-body injury in their season opener on Friday against the Dallas Stars and will miss at least six weeks, according to The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford.

Toropchenko left Friday’s game in the second period after he was hit by two Stars behind the net with what was reported at the time as a shoulder injury.

After the Blues’ 4-0 win, head coach Jim Montgomery said Toropchenko was sore with an upper body injury and was “more than day-to-day.” Montgomery said he did not yet have an MRI, but expected to know more Saturday, when the Blues play in Colorado.

Toropchenko initially took a hard check from defenceman Lian Bischel, and while the forward was going toward the boards took another shot from the side from Tyler Seguin. Torophchenko immediately grabbed at his upper right arm as he was falling to the ice.

After being initially being tended to on the ice, Toropchenko was hunched over in obvious pain while bracing his arm when going down the tunnel toward the dressing room with about 16 and a half minutes left in the second period.

The 27-year-old Toropchenko is playing in his sixth NHL season - all with the Blues - and is coming off a 2025-26 campaign in which he scored four goals and finished with 11 points. Both of those totals were his lowest in a single season since his rookie campaign, when he played just 28 games.

In 325 career NHL games, the native of Moscow has 34 goals and 71 points.
