The Carolina Hurricanes got two pieces of injury news on Friday - one good, and one bad.
Head coach Rod Brind’Amour announced forward Taylor Hall is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury, while forward Seth Jarvis will travel with the team and may be nearing a return from off-season shoulder surgery.
Hall, 34, logged only 4:17 of ice time in the team’s 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, and left the game after skating in eight shifts in the first period. After the game, Brind’Amour said “That doesn’t look good either,” in reference to Hall’s injury, but did not specify what happened or when the injury occurred.
Hall has three goals and five points in eight games on the young season. This is his first season with the Hurricanes since coming over from the Chicago Blackhawks as part of a three-team trade midway through the 2024-25 campaign. He was brilliant in the postseason last year, helping guide the Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup title behind seven goals and 19 points in 19 playoff games.
Jarvis, 24, shed his non-contact jersey in practice for the first time earlier in October as he works his way back from shoulder surgery he underwent in June.
“It’s probably the biggest step I’ve had so far, getting out of that, being able to take contact now,” Jarvis told reporters after the team’s skate before hosting Vancouver on Thursday night. “Now it’s just a matter of getting comfortable, making sure it’s ready to go.”
Jarvis told The Associated Press in late September he wanted to be back for a trip to Finland for Carolina’s two-game set against Seattle on Nov. 12 and 14, though he raised the possibility of returning by the end of October.
The fifth-year player scored 32 goals and finished with 66 points in 71 games last season.
The Hurricanes are the top team in the Eastern Conference at 6-1-1 entering play on Friday. They open a five-game road trip with a game against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
