Simon Edvinsson intends to be at training camp with the Detroit Red Wings later this month while the defenceman waits for a new contract following the expiration of his entry-level deal, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports.
LeBrun adds the Edvinsson is “patiently waiting” for the Red Wings to hire a permanent general manager before returning to the table for contract negotiations.
Edvinsson remains a restricted free agent while Detroit continues their search for a new GM after Steve Yzerman stepped down from the role in July. The team tendered a qualifying offer of $874,125 ahead of free agency to keep his RFA status intact.
The 23-year-old blueliner scored nine goals and posted 25 points in 72 appearances for Detroit last season, while playing a career-high 22:21 minutes of ice time per game.
Edvinsson was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft by Yzerman and the Red Wings, and has since recorded 19 goals and 41 assists across 175 career games for Detroit over the past three seasons.
