The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenceman Gavin Bayreuther from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for prospect forward Viktor Neuchev, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.

Bayreuther, 31, had four goals and 13 points in 33 games this season with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves.

He spent last season in Switzerland with Lausanne HC, where he scored five goals with 23 points in 52 games.

Bayreuther last suited up in the NHL during the 2022-23 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, when he played 51 games with the club.

The Concord, N.H., native has appeared in 122 career NHL games, split between the Dallas Stars and Blue Jackets.

Neuchev, 22, was drafted in the third round (74th overall) by Buffalo in 2022.

In 34 games with the AHL’s Rochester Americans this season, he has six goals and 16 points, his third with the team.
