Sabres’ Dahlin exits game with upper-body injury

Published:

Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin exited his team’s game against the Florida Panthers with an upper-body injury on Monday and did not return.

The injury occurred early in the second period after Dahlin took a shot from the slot that was stopped by Panthers netminder Jacob Markstrom. He then skated to the Sabres bench gingerly.

Dahlin recorded a power-play goal on four shots with one blocked shot in 9:06 of ice time, leaving the game with the Sabres leading 2-1.

The 6-foot-3, left-shot defenceman has a goal and four points in six games this season and was averaging 26:32 of ice time entering Monday’s matchup.

Dahlin finished third in Norris Trophy voting last season after registering 19 goals and 74 points in 77 games while averaging 24:11 of ice time. His play helped the Sabres win the Atlantic Division and make the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign.

Buffalo has a 2-3-0 record entering Monday’s action and goes on the road on Tuesday for a three-game road trip that sees them play the Montreal Canadiens twice on Tuesday and Saturday and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
