Senators use 25th pick in draft to select F Lagerberg-Hoen

The Ottawa Senators selected Swedish forward Jonas Lagerberg-Hoen with the 25th-overall selection in the NHL Draft on Friday.

Lagerberg-Hoen, 18, played in only nine games this past season with Leksands IF in Sweden after suffering an ACL injury early in the year.

In those nine games, the 6-foot-2 forward scored nine goals and totaled 16 points, giving the Senators something to be excited about despite the lack of play in Sweden.

Lagerberg-Hoen has never played with Sweden in international competition.

The Senators are coming off a season in which they were eliminated in four games by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Ottawa finished the regular season with a record of 44-27-11.

Lagerberg-Hoen scored 36 goals in 49 games playing in Sweden, and has the potential to give the Senators some offensive firepower down the road after captain Brady Tkachuk was traded away earlier in June.
