Senators defenceman Jake Sanderson left Saturday night’s preseason finale in Ottawa against the Montreal Canadiens for what the team said were precautionary reasons.
He will not return, the Sens said.
According to The Athletic’s Julian McKenzie, Sanderson left after assisting on Drake Batherson’s power-play goal in the second period. He played 12 shifts with 13:22 of ice time before departing.
According to McKenzie, the 24-year-old blueliner had not skated with the Senators the past few days leading up to Saturday’s game.
Sanderson is heading into his fifth NHL season with Ottawa since being selected with the fifth-overall pick in 2020. He had 14 goals and 40 assists for 54 points in 67 games last season.
The Senators open their 2026-27 regular season next Saturday night in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.
