Veteran UFA winger Perron still looking to play in NHL

Veteran left winger David Perron is still interested in playing in the NHL as the unrestricted free agent is looking for the right fit, according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.

Perron, 38, finished last season with the Detroit Red Wings after he was acquired from the Ottawa Senators for a draft pick prior to the trade deadline.

He had 13 goals and 28 points in 65 games split between the Senators and Red Wings last season.

“Perron is actively looking for the right situation for him and his family and is committed to playing this season,” his agent, Allan Walsh, said this week.

LeBrun notes is currently staying in shape in hometown of Sherbrooke, Que., and wouldn’t rule out a potential return to the Red Wings.

The six-foot winger is coming off a two-year, $4 million contract that carried a cap hit of $2 million.

Drafted 26th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2007, Perron has 332 goals and 812 points in 1,239 games split between the Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, Red Wings, and Senators.

Perron, a 19-year veteran of the NHL, helped the Blues to their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history in 2019, recording seven goals and 16 points.
