Chayka: Having the roster fit the coach is an important aspect but not the deciding factor

Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka calls hiring a head coach 'the most critical decision' a GM has to make, and says the organization will take their time with the search for finding Craig Berube's replacement. Chayka didn't want to get into what he was looking for in the next head coach but did note the importance of alignment throughout the organization.


Maple Leafs fire Berube after two years as head coach

The Maple Leafs have parted ways with head coach Craig Berube after the team missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Berube coached two seasons in Toronto, going 84-62-18 and winning the Atlantic Division in 2024-25.
