Newhook on pivotal Game 2: 'We've got to bring the same energy, same intentions'

As the Canadiens look to take a two-game stranglehold on their series with the Lightning, Habs centre Alex Newhook says they'll have to bring that same energy into Game 2 if they want to go back to Montreal up a pair of games. Head coach Martin St. Louis says he likes what he saw from his second line, featuring Newhook, as they matched up heavily with the Lightning's top talent.


NHL: Ducks 3, Oilers 4

Kasperi Kapanen scored his second goal of the game with 1:54 left in the third period to give the Oilers a victory over the Ducks in the opener of their first-round playoff series. Jason Dickinson also scored twice and Leon Draisaitl recorded two assists in his return to the lineup. EDM leads series 1-0.


NHL: Wild 2, Stars 4

Wyatt Johnston had two unusual goals, Matt Duchene scored a tiebreaking power-play goal and had an assist, and the Stars beat the Wild in Game 2 to even their first-round Western Conference series. Series tied 1-1.


Draisaitl doesn't miss a beat in return to lineup as Oilers take Game 1

NHL: Flyers 3, Penguins 0

Dan Vladar stopped 27 shots, rookie Porter Martone scored for the second straight game, and the Flyers shut out Sidney Crosby and the Penguins to take the first two games in their best-of-seven first-round series. PHI leads series 2-0.

'We're going find the answers': Habs' top line looking to get out of Cirelli-Hagel shadow

In Sunday's overtime thriller, the Canadiens and Lightning only scored one even strength goal each. Montreal's top line of Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky were being shadowed by Tampa's Brandon Hagel, Anthony Cirelli and Jake Guentzel. While confident of their abilities, the Bolts know the Habs' top unit will get chances, they just have to limit how many 5-on-5 they can get.


Draisaitl and Dickinson will be game-time decisions for Oilers in Game 1 vs. Ducks

Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch didn't confirm if Leon Draisaitl and Jason Dickinson will be in the lineup for Edmonton in Game 1 of their first round series against the Ducks Monday night. Cheveldayoff will take 'deep dive' into what went wrong for Jets this offseason
