Dylan Strome is staying in Washington for the foreseeable future, signing a five-year, $25 million contract extension with the Capitals on Friday.

The 25-year-old centre, who is in his first season with the Caps, has scored 11 goals and 25 assists over 52 games.

“Dylan is an intelligent and skilled center and has been a great addition to our organization,” said senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan in a relase. “We are pleased to sign him to a long-term contract. We feel his skill set is a great fit for our team as he enters the prime years of his career at an important position.”

Strome signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Caps this summer after spending the previous four seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Selected third overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2015, the native of Mississauga, Ont., has scored 78 goals and 128 assists over 325 career games with the Coyotes, Blackhawks and Capitals.
