Canada’s Ruck wins women’s 200m backstroke gold at swimming World Cup

TASHKENT — Taylor Ruck wrapped up the second stop of the three-meet World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series with a podium-topping performance for Canada on Saturday.

The 26-year-old from Kelowna, B.C., won gold in the women’s 200-metre backstroke with a time of two minutes 2.41 seconds.

Anna Peplowski of the United States was second in 2:02.71, while Japan’s Waka Kobori was third in 2:06.99.

A four-time Olympic medallist, Ruck also captured silver in both the women’s 100-metre backstroke and 50-metre freestyle earlier in the week.

Canada finished with seven medals in Tashkent — one gold, three silver and three bronze.

The World Cup series concludes next week in Kazakhstan.
