Omar Salgado's time in Vancouver is over.
The former first overall draft pick posted a thank-you message on Instagram and Twitter on Thursday signalling an end a four year stay with the club. The Whitecaps are yet to confirm his departure, but it isn't unexpected.
Salgado was the Whitecaps first ever draft pick when they joined Major League Soccer in 2011 but the 21-year-old's time in Vancouver has been plagued by injuries and controversial incidents, most recently being sent away from training after a dangerous tackle on one of his teammates. He subsequently went on trial with Tigres in Mexico.
"Thank you to all the fans that always had my back and supported me throughout the good and tough times. You guys were amazing. To my teammates, all I can say is thank you. You guys always helped me and supported me, and im happy to say I made many friendships here that will last forever. I wish every single one of you nothing but the best. Its been one hell of a ride."
