Canada Soccer: Eustaquio injury does not appear serious

Published:

SAINT PAUL — Canada Soccer says the injury Stephen Eustaquio sustained in Tuesday’s 1-0 friendly loss to the United States does not appear to be serious after the Swansea midfielder underwent an X-ray.

Eustaquio fell hard to the turf following a challenge by Gio Reyna in the 40th minute at Allianz Field.

Canada’s vice-captain stayed in the game temporarily before coach Jesse Marsch replaced him with Mathieu Choinière at halftime.

Eustaquio, 29, had his shoulder examined Tuesday night in Minnesota before returning to Swansea, where he will undergo further assessment.

The Leamington, Ont., native joined camp late after getting married but played in all three matches during the international break, with Canada beating Chile and Peru on home soil before falling to the Americans.

Swansea plays its next match Saturday at home to Norwich City.
