Canada’s Eustáquio has shoulder scan after suffering apparent injury

Published:

Canadian midfielder Stephen Eustáquio had a scan on his shoulder after suffering an apparent injury in the first half of Tuesday’s international friendly against the United States and results showed that it does not appear to be serious, according to TSN’s Matthew Scianitti.

Scianitti reports that Eustáquio will return to his club team Swansea City where he will undergo further assessment.

Eustáquio appeared to suffer the injury after he was knocked down by American midfielder Gio Reyna, who was shown a yellow card, in the 40th minute.

The 29-year-old remained in the game until halftime and then was replaced by Mathieu Choinière to begin the second half of play.

Eustáquio began the game wearing the captain’s armband for Canada with Alphonso Davies absent from the team during the current international window.

Jonathan David assumed the captain’s role when Eustáquio exited the contest.

Eustáquio is in his first season with Championship side Swansea City, having made the move after four-and-a-half years at Porto.

Canada dropped Tuesday’s game to the USA 1-0 on a 29th minute goal by Justin Ellis.
